Velvet Revolver's Hunt For New Singer Over?
Posted by Daniel Wilcox on 12.01.2008

A rumour has reached Classic Rock that the singer Velvet Revolver are seeking to recruit to replace Scott Weiland is Irishman Phil Conalane from Million Dollar Reload.

Conalane was apparently recommended to Velvet Revolver by ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler, and also by Stone Gods, the band formed from the ashes of The Darkness. Stone Gods reportedly tried to recruit Conalane themselves when Justin Hawkins left The Darkness.

Classic Rock's source, who claims to be in contact with an insider at Velvet Revolver's management, tells them:

"Though a surprising choice, Phil is experienced but relatively unknown on the international stage, which would fit Velvet Revolver's bill of fresh blood as they try to rebuild their career following the disappointing sales of their last album, Libertad, and the GN'R return that has left them reeling. Phil is also well known as a good songwriter, something that scuppered Velvet Revolver's plans when previously they tried to bring in the less-than-prolific Josh Todd of Buckcherry."

Have they attempted to contact Axl Rose?

EPIC FAIL = Gay.

I like Velvet Revolver. I think they did ok music. Nothing as ground breaking and changing as Axl Rose has done. But good 80's type rock.

Part of me believes the band should audition new rock singers thru Slash's upcoming solo album. See who has the best chemistry with him and go from there.

If V.R. = EPIC FAIL, and EPIC FAIL = Gay, then V.R. is Gay. You've been outed, so you may as well hire Clay Aiken as your frontman (or backman).

Axl Rose is a fuckin' prick and deserved everything that happened to him. Axl is probably laughing right now at Velvet Revolver because Chinese Democracy actually did really good. I would just move egos aside and reform Guns n Roses and make fuckin' millions.

I hear Steve Perry is available and would fit the ugly as hell look the band is going for.

Epic Fail= try suicide again

V.R. (with or without a singer) > Axl.

Velvet Revolver is a great band that is a million times better than the now a days guns n roses crap that they just released. The cd sold because people were curious about a cd that took more than a decade to make. But if you listen to it I think its obvious Guns n Roses is nobody without Slash Duff n Matt Sorums song writing and musical genious.

Is it not possible to like both VR and the new GnR? Why does everybody have to go with one or the other (or neither :P). Personally I love VR and I think Libertad was a massively under-rated album. I also am enjoying Chinese Democracy more and more the more I listen to it. I'm interested to see what the new guy is gonna sound like.

Would have made a great reality show like Rockstar Supernova.

I have to argue that velvet revolver was an epic fail. If you ask me they were one of only a couple good rock bands left. Todays musics sucks and VR was a current band that played more classic rock music. which is desperatly needed in the rock scene right now cuz its a bunchy of whiny crap outside of VR, The Foo Fighters, and a couple others.

quit talking trash about vr. they saved rock music, without Scott they'll be even better.

V.R definetely needs the right singer to show what they got. I heard to much weiland influence( I don't care for it.)As a fan I awaited chinese democracy. Unfotunately it's overproduced the vocals run on and it really just sounds generic. axl's voice is still there and it's wasted on this crap. AXL broke up one of the best bands in history for this???egotistical self rightous baby
